Whenever you're having a dream that scares you and gets your attention, look at what's happening in your life right now. That's the best way to interpret your dream.
e.g. Someone could have almost the exact same dream of being chased, yet the meaning of their dream might be totally different than what your dream means.
That's why I'm not a big fan of dream dictionaries. When it comes to dream interpretation, one size doesn't fit all.
Also our mind is an amazing piece of equipment. When you dream your unconscious mind is looking for ways to give you messages using pictures or movies. Sometimes several images appear that seem totally unrelated, but they're all the same message, just presented in different ways.
Dream Analysis.
Ask yourself these kinds of questions:
- Is someone chasing, hunting, or pursuing you in real life right now?
- Does something in your life right now frighten you?
- Are you dealing with a problem that doesn't go away?
- Do you feel you're in a hopeless situation?
- Are you stressed?
Dreams are often a metaphor for what's going on in your life right now.
- Have you been preoccupied with something?
- Are you frightened that deadlines are catching up with you?
- What are your greatest fears? Make a list.
Who is chasing you? Can see who it is? If you can, why are they chasing you? If you don't know who it is, how do you feel when you're being chased? Is it a game for them or you? Is it playful? Or does it feel your life is in immediate danger. Do you wake up startled and afraid? Is your dream a nightmare? Or is it just a dream that you remember after a good night's rest?
Typically being chased has something to do with running away from something that you know will follow you. Perhaps a problem in your life right now might be that you feel exposed or vulnerable with no place to hide. There are many possible interpretations.
Dream Interpretation.
If none of the above questions, help you analyze a dream, then follow these steps:
- List every single person, place, or object in your dream
- Beside each item write down what that means to you
- Make a link between the images in your dream with your life right now
If you can't find any correlation between your life and your dream, relax. Dreams about being chased can be disturbing. Take a break and the answer may come to you later in the day.
If you get the same dream every night, or different dreams but they're all about being chased, do this before you go to sleep. Tell yourself, you'll remember your dream or dreams, and when you wake up you'll know exactly what each message means.
Another good technique is this. Before going to sleep, repeat this question over and over again. 'Why is it so easy for me to interpret my dreams?'
Always keep a notebook and pen right beside your bed, so if you wake up in the night you can write down your dream immediately before you forget important details.
If you have several dreams of being chased and they're all different, sometimes using the above techniques on each and every dream works because you begin to see a pattern. Even though every dream looks different, they probably all mean the same thing. Look for the one or two things that ties all your dreams together.
If you're having the same dream over and over, it means that your unconscious is desperately trying to get your attention and doesn't know of another way to communicate.
As soon as you figure out your dream and acknowledge that you understand what it means, the dreams of being chased, hunted, or pursued should stop. Once you know the meaning of your dreams, there's no reason for your unconscious mind to give you the same dreams again. It knows that you understand the dream and it's job of warning you is done.
The final step of course is do something with the information you receive from your dream. If you can great. If you can't, have a little talk with your unconscious mind. Be thankful and appreciative that it cares about your well being enough to give you excellent dreams that get your attention. Next, it needs reassurance that you're dealing with the situation and taking positive steps to improve your life.
